It always excites me to log into a freshly updated Mac operating system the first time. It is fun to find the improved features and redesigned elements.

With the release of OS X El Capitan, Apple spent some time beautifying an element you’re never supposed to see: the rainbow coloured “spinning pinwheel” or “Pinwheel of Death”!

The infamous icon appears when a program or app is freezing or a system process takes more time than it supposed to. It has been used to a comedic value in the series of the “Family Guy”.

The new flat and matt look of the spinning wheel does correspond with the flat UI design which is more inline with John Ive’s flat design mantra.

Keep an eye out for it.
